Summit EMS Awards Scholarships for EMTs

Summit EMS launched a “Completing EMT” scholarship program this spring for volunteer EMTs serving our community. The scholarships are for undergraduate and graduate degrees, medical and nursing school, paramedic, or technical degrees. We were thrilled to be able to award five scholarships this fall and look forward to more awards this spring. The scholarship allows us to provide the highest quality trained EMTs for our 24/7 response in Summit, while enabling our students to achieve their academic and professional goals. Kerry Whitcher, personnel lieutenant, noted the success of the program in “allowing students to continue to volunteer valuable time with us and gain hands-on pre-hospital experience, while still enabling their educational goals”.
Pre-hospital experience provides essential foundational training that sharpens clinical decision-making, autonomy, and crisis management for any healthcare career. We are particularly proud to have a few of our long-term volunteers who have been with us since they were in our junior program, continue to work with us while in medical school. The benefits to our squad and our community are enormous.
