Westfield High School’s girls hockey team opened the 2025 season with a 10–3 win over Cranford on Dec. 5. Westfield jumped out early and maintained control throughout the game, using balanced scoring and sustained offensive pressure.
Senior Lauren Delaney (#7) led the Blue Devils with four goals and two assists, while senior Hannah Gold (#48) added two goals and one assist. Westfield’s offense capitalized on multiple scoring opportunities, while the defense limited Cranford’s chances as the game progressed.

Undefeated Westfield girls soccer secured its second straight Union County Tournament title with a 2–0 win over Cranford, scoring twice in the first half and controlling the game on both ends of the field. The Blue Devils relied on disciplined defense, steady goalkeeping and an aggressive, team-oriented attack that emphasized playing for each other—especially injured teammates who couldn’t take the field. Head coach Alex Schmidt credited the win to preparation and execution, noting the team had studied Cranford and stuck to its game plan.

Westfield recently picked up a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime victory over Scotch Plains-Fanwood in Scotch Plains. Riley Carr delivered the game-winning goal in extra time, lifting the Blue Devils to the dramatic win. Scotch Plains-Fanwood goalkeeper Brooke Ferguson finished with 11 saves, marking her third game this season with double-digit stops.

In a dramatic conclusion to the 2025 Union County Tournament, the Westfield High School boys lacrosse team ended Summit High School’s six-year championship streak with a 6-5 victory on May 10 at Arthur L. Johnson High School.

On February 1, 2025, Westfield High School’s head boys basketball coach, Jim McKeon, achieved a significant milestone by securing his 100th career victory with a 51-47 win over Linden.
Reflecting on the achievement, Coach McKeon remarked, “It’s really nice to see everyone cheering and supporting me, but it’s just another game. I want more than 100 wins; I want the kids to be remembered forever in the banner, and that’s the goal for everything.”

This Week’s Athlete of the Week
Congratulations to this week’s athletes of the week, Dominick Lotito & Mia Luna. Dominick, a junior on the varsity swim team, has been a strong competitor for the boys’ team this season. This past weekend at the Union County Championships he set a new school record in the 100-yard backstroke. Mia, a senior captain on the varsity bowling team, placed third overall in Union County in the girls individual tournament this past week, bowling a high game of 170 and high series of 543.
