WPS named among the “Best Communities for Music” for 8th Consecutive Year
For the eighth consecutive year, the Westfield Public School District has earned recognition as one of the ‘Best Communities for Music Education.’ This prestigious accolade, awarded by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation, honors districts for their exceptional commitment to providing comprehensive music education opportunities to every student.
“Receiving the 2025 NAMM Best Communities for Music Education Award for eight years in a row is a tremendous honor and a testament to the unwavering commitment of our students, dedicated educators, supportive families, and the entire Westfield community,” says Supervisor of K-12 Visual and Performing Arts Shawna Longo. “This sustained recognition underscores our deep-rooted belief in the power of music education to enrich lives and provide a vital component of a comprehensive education.”
The recognition comes as three choirs from Westfield High School participated in the New Jersey American Choral Directors Association (NJACDA) High School Choir Festival at Rutgers University on May 20, joining ensembles from across the state in a powerful day of music, learning, and collaboration.
The WHS Chorale, Concert Choir, and Treble Choir all received SUPERIOR performance ratings, with additional recognition for their excellence in sight singing:
An EXEMPLARY rating is awarded only in the sight singing portion of the festival and reflects the students’ mastery of essential musicianship skills.
“It was a truly memorable day filled with connection, inspiration, and learning,” said WHS Director of Choirs John Brzozowski. “Congratulations to all of our students for their exceptional performances, professionalism, and dedication. Your hard work and musical excellence continue to inspire and make us proud!”
In addition, 14 WHS students earned placement in the 2025–2026 All-State Choirs, selected through a rigorous audition process:
