Summit Downtown, Inc. receives $150K state grant for downtown improvements
Summit Downtown, Inc. has been awarded a $150,000 Main Street New Jersey District Transformation Grant from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, the organization announced.
The grant, the largest awarded to date to SDI, will fund a series of infrastructure and technology upgrades aimed at improving the downtown experience for residents, visitors, and businesses. Funding is made possible through the support of Gov. Phil Murphy and his administration.
Planned projects include the paving and restoration of a key downtown alleyway, infrastructure upgrades to the Summit Farmers Market lot—such as new fencing, electrical work, and landscaping—and a state-mandated annual audit. Additionally, SDI will subscribe to two new technology platforms to improve location-based services and streamline event management.
“This generous grant is a great help for our downtown,” said Nancy Adams, executive director of Summit Downtown, Inc. “It allows us to move forward on long-needed infrastructure improvements and technology upgrades that will better serve our businesses, residents, and thousands of annual visitors.”
Adams also expressed gratitude to Murphy, Main Street New Jersey State Coordinator Gina Fischetti and her staff, and the Department of Community Affairs.
The Main Street New Jersey program, administered by DCA, supports economic development and revitalization in traditional downtowns across the state. The funding highlights both the state’s investment in strong commercial districts and Summit Downtown’s commitment to continued improvement.
Summit Downtown, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion and development of downtown Summit.
