How did the Pandemic impact your sport?

Because of the pandemic, I couldn’t train in the water for a few months. I was able to do a lot of strength training outside of the pool, but it isn’t the same as physically being in the water. The first few months getting back in the pool weren’t easy, but everyone else on my club team was going through the same experience and we built our strength back up together.

Have you traveled anywhere related to this sport?

The furthest I’ve had to travel to attend a meet is upstate Connecticut.

Have you met anyone famous in this sport/activity?

I got to meet Olympic medalists Jason Lezak and Kim Vandenberg.

What awards or honors have you won?

Varsity 4 Years; Counties Champs 2020 & 2022; Winning individual races for summer, club, & school.

What have you learned from participating in this sport? What do you like best about the sport?

I learned the importance of making goals through swimming. It requires a lot of training and working to accomplish certain time standards. What I like best is that you’re part of a team but you also get to grow individually. It’s a great balance because you always have teammates to lean on but they also push you to do better in practice.

What is your favorite moment?

Being on deck with the team is always so fun. We lift each other up before and after races, but you also have time to prep yourself and get in the zone for your race. For high school, there’s usually a camera on deck and the pictures are uploaded after meets. It has been able to capture us having laughs, celebrating the boys constantly breaking relay records, and our best races in the water. Seeing all the photos of everyone smiling is a good feeling and a great way to remember our amazing seasons.

What do you plan on doing this season?

This season I’m excited to see what our team can do and how far we will go in states because we have a really strong team and then a lot of fast incoming freshmen. It’s truly an amazing group of people and I have a lot of faith in both the girls and boys teams and I can’t wait to see what we’re able to accomplish.

One tip for someone looking to get into this sport/activity:

Everyone in swim is on a different level and it’s important to not compare yourself to the swimmer next to you. Their goals are going to be different than yours and to do your best you need to take it one step at a time.
