A Culture of Giving: Service at the Heart of St. Patrick School

The school’s ongoing commitment to helping others is woven into daily learning and brought to life through meaningful service opportunities for students of all ages. This spirit of giving was especially evident during the Advent season, as students embraced the call to serve with compassion, generosity, and joy.

Service is an integral part of the St. Patrick School experience throughout the year, encouraging students to put their faith into action by supporting those in need. During Advent, even the youngest learners participated in outreach efforts. Students as young as three years old worked on special projects benefiting St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center, demonstrating that caring for God’s creation begins early.

Other students helped spread Christmas cheer by partnering with Helping Hands of Chatham, bringing hope and kindness to local families during the holiday season. Through these efforts, students learned the importance of community and the impact of small acts of service.

St. Patrick School’s middle school students took on larger-scale initiatives, collecting an impressive 3,596 diapers for Moms Helping Moms, a nonprofit supporting families in need. To deepen their Advent reflection, students measured the donated diaper boxes as “miles” representing Mary’s journey to Bethlehem, connecting service with faith and Scripture in a powerful, tangible way.

In addition, students assembled protein packs that will be distributed to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity through Help4All. This hands-on project reinforced lessons of empathy, stewardship, and responsibility toward others.

Through these service initiatives and many more throughout the year, St. Patrick School continues to foster a culture where faith and service go hand in hand. By engaging students in age-appropriate outreach opportunities, the school empowers them to grow as compassionate leaders who understand the importance of serving others—during Advent and beyond.
