Downtown Cranford Prepares for a Summer of Music and New Literary Charm

As summer continues, Downtown Cranford is alive with the sounds of live music and anticipation for a new independent bookstore set to open later this year.

The Summer Sounds concert series is still bringing live performances to Eastman Plaza on Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. through August. Local music lovers can enjoy a variety of acts, supported by Downtown Cranford’s sponsors including Cranford Golf Studio, Brighton Air Corp, Garlic Rose, SMW Local 22, and Martin Jewelers.

In addition to the music, Downtown Cranford will soon welcome The Cranford Bookstore, which is scheduled to open later this year at 1 South Avenue East, in the space formerly home to a Supercuts salon. The bookstore is owned by Cranford residents Kate Lydon and Lauren King, who share a passion for literature. Lydon co-founded the Asbury Park Book Cooperative, and King brings experience as an English teacher.

After operating pop-up shops and local deliveries, the duo secured a permanent downtown location to create a community space centered around books and culture.
