Holy Trinity School and Girls Volleyball Teams Raise funds in a Pink Out!

The month of October was Breast Cancer Awareness month and for the second year in a row, Holy Trinity’s Girls Volleyball teams hosted a Pink Out to raise funds for the Young Survival Coalition (YSC), a global organization dedicated to the critical issues facing young women diagnosed with breast cancer.

The event, which was held in the Holy Trinity School gymnasium on Sunday, October 23, 2022 was preceded by a dress down day for all students of Holy Trinity School on Friday, October 21st. Students were encouraged to donate a minimum of $1 to shed their uniform for the day and dress in pink. All visiting teams playing in the gym during Sunday’s games were asked to wear something pink as well. During the volleyball games, donated socks with the breast cancer logos were available for purchase at the concession stand along with pink donuts and pink salt pretzels. The admission fees and concessions were added to the school tag day and sock sales for a total donation of $2000.00. The day was organized by several parents of the volleyball teams and players who represented all three Holy Trinity teams.

“I think that hosting and participating in Pink Out was important because not only is it festive and fun but it brings awareness to the effects of breast cancer as well as gives the CYO teams a chance to join together in solidarity for an important cause,” stated Brienne Steinwald, a member of one of Holy Trinity’s Varsity teams.

“I think that making younger children aware of the importance of women’s health issues is a critical part in catching breast and other cancers early to increase survival rates in the future,” said school principal, Dr. Adele Ellis. “Some of the team parents, students on the teams, and other adults, including myself, have experienced the effects of breast cancer on the family unit as well as the cancer patients themselves. I am proud that our students have decided to support an organization that works with young women around the world,” she added.
