Where/why did you get your pet?

Hank was an adoption from a local family who unfortunately couldn’t devote time to such a sensitive animal. We communicate with the original owners – very much like an open adoption. Some members of our family are allergic to pet hair and dander so a reptile was the perfect family pet!

Is there a story behind your pet’s name?

Hank came as a rescue and we were told the chameleon was a male at first but after lots of reading and opinions from expert online forums, we had an idea that she was a female. We didn’t know that for sure until she laid a healthy batch of eggs for the first time after a few months under our care.

Anything special or unusual about your pet?

She loves to bask in the sun and her colors change based on her mood. She will shed a layer of skin every 3-4 months.

What do you like best about your pet?

Our family loves taking special care of her and make sure she has the correct husbandry which will keep her happy and healthy.

Any funny stories?

Every day is a game of hide and seek! She lives in a 2x2x4 screened enclosure filled with plants. Hank will reveal herself if we show a wiggly super worm.

How spoiled is your pet, give us an example?

Hank loves eating a variety of live insects. Her favorite special treat is a juicy hornworm.

What else should we know about your pet? How has the pet enriched your life?

Chameleons are solitary animals. They like to hide under the safety of plants or come above the canopy to bask in warm sun. This allows us to combine our love of different plants and keeping Hank our chameleon healthy.
