Kate Hamill\u2019s playful new adaptation of Austen\u2019s beloved novel follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters\u2014sensible Elinor and hypersensitive Marianne\u2014after their father\u2019s sudden death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. Set in gossipy late 18th-century England, with a fresh female voice, the play is full of humor, emotional depth, and bold theatricality.\u00a0 Even two centuries later, we realize that our reactions to love and societal pressures can still be both reasonable and ridiculous, but that the bond of family and sisterhood can uplift us in the most challenging of times.<\/p>\n
