This is bigger than any of us could have imagined,\u201d said Melissa.<\/p>\nLike many times before, the call went out and the residents of Chatham answered. I witnessed firsthand the selfless actions of our community doing what they do best, coming together in times of need. First responders come in all forms and this time, it was the members of the Chatham Community Forum who came running to help. A simple post triggered a frenzy of responses \u2013 sincere and heartfelt messages within minutes, followed by bags of clothes and anonymous grocery-store gift cards left on our porch within hours.<\/p>\n
My mom was seeking clothing donations for her cousin, Melissa, who\u2019s Fort Myers family home was wiped out by the destruction of Hurricane Ian. Aside from some items in a storage unit, the family was left with very little other than the clothes on their backs. While their other basic human needs of food and shelter were met due to the kindness and generosity of the surrounding Florida communities, they still needed clothing.<\/p>\n

The positive and immediate response from friends, strangers, and even business owners was incredible. For example, the owners of Quartet didn\u2019t hesitate to gather and donate summer clothes from their store. \u201cOur hearts go out to the victims of Ian. Many of our local families have ties to Southwest Florida and we are thinking of them at a terrible time. We have seen the power of a community when it comes together and we are grateful that we can support the families in this small way,\u201d said Vicky Anello.<\/p>\n
The compassionate heart and humanness of the Chatham community has touched the lives of so many people during times of need, including now. \u201cI am speechless and crying in gratitude. Please tell your community how much we appreciate everything. The kindness of others is what is carrying us,\u201d said Melissa.<\/p>\n
On behalf of my mom, Sharon McKenzie, thank you isn\u2019t enough for helping my extended family while they rebuild their home and lives. I am in awe of your kindness and generosity.<\/p>\n
